  • Nuclear Medicine Imaging

Patient Care

Department of Diagnostic Imaging physicians and staff provide continuous diagnostic and interventional services and support for our inpatient and outpatient facilities, which include UConn John Dempsey Hospital and the UConn Medical Group (UMG).

Department of Diagnostic Imaging offers state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, digital radiography, mammography, and nuclear medicine imaging. Other equipment highlights include 3D mammography (Tomosynthesis), advanced imaging techniques for musculoskeletal, body, and neuroradiologic imaging (e.g., DTI, spectroscopy, liver elastography, pelvic floor, and prostate imaging), and breast MRI with MR guided biopsy capability.

Our Interventional Radiology Division performs a full complement of diagnostic and therapeutic services for vascular and body cases. In addition, musculoskeletal interventional services are performed for pain control, biopsy, and ablation.

We also offer low dose lung cancer screening services and a wide array of fluoroscopy and nuclear medicine imaging, including SPECT and PET/CT.

Education

Department of Diagnostic Imaging is home to a diagnostic radiology residency. Our teaching faculty provides progressive learning opportunities with graduated responsibilities in an environment of collegiality and camaraderie that extends well beyond residency training. Residents are also afforded exploration in teaching, research, and leadership to complement their imaging science curriculum.

In addition, there are undergraduate and graduate medical education programs for non-radiology residents and medical students.

Research

Department of Diagnostic Imaging has active research in clinical and translational science disciplines. A full complement of ancillary services is available for research support. Faculty members conduct research using an interdisciplinary approach enhancing opportunities to make significant contributions in medical science and the care of our patients.

The Department of Radiology provides a full range of radiological services related to MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Mammography, Dexa, X-Rays and intervention procedures. We have installed technologically advanced, state-of-the-art medical equipment in our endeavour to provide the best diagnostic output. The department consists of highly skilled technicians and radiologists who are dedicated to provide 24X7 patient care. The department is also actively involved in pushing boundaries in the world of radiology and imaging through various research activities.
